Evolution of non-Kramers doublets in magnetic field in PrNi2Cd20 and PrPd2Cd20

Praseodymium-based 1-2-20 cage compounds $\mathrm{Pr}{T}_{2}{X}_{20}$ ($T$ is generally Ti, V, Nb, Ru, Rh, Ir; and $X$ either Al, Zn, or Cd) provide yet another platform to study nontrivial electronic states of matter ranging from topological magnetic orders unconventional multipolar superconductivity. In this paper, we report measurements the heat capacity in two Pr-based materials: ${\mathrm{PrNi}}_{2}{\mathrm{Cd}}_{20}$ ${\mathrm{PrPd}}_{2}{\mathrm{Cd}}_{20}$. We find that lowest-energy multiplet Pr $4{f}^{2}$ valence configuration a ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Gamma}}}_{3}$ non-Kramers doublet first excited triplet assumed be ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Gamma}}}_{5}$. By analyzing dependence energy splitting between ground singlet on an external field, found maximum corresponding Schottky anomaly ${\mathrm{PrPd}}_{2}{\mathrm{Cd}}_{20}$, unlike ${\mathrm{PrNi}}_{2}{\mathrm{Cd}}_{20}$, shows pronounced linear field at higher values. This effect associated with exchange interactions field-induced dipole moments.
